Small business opportunities are bigger than ever in the 21 st century marketplace and our government recognizes this by providing government loans and grants for starting a business, for business expansion and even to struggling businesses. The majority of grants for starting a business and for business expansion from the federal government are made to organizations in specific industries; medicine, education, research, environment and technology. For the most part businesses will find the bulk of funds available to them come from state and local communities and private organizations. The most common funds available to businesses are made to benefit state and/or local community, for example; child care, conservation, energy efficiency, technology, low income housing development, tourism, etc. Examples of financial assistance programs are awards, competitions, prizes, donations, goods, and grants for starting a business and/or grants for business operating support or expansion. Technical support may come in the form of information, training, consulting, coaching, mentoring, assistance writing a business plan, etc. Grants and assistance are available to ventures in various industries; whether a small mom-and-pop store or a multi-million dollar manufacturer, there is support available. Other avenues of assistance are financial incentives, tax rebates and credits, low-interest loans, and venture capital financing.
